Three firefighters were rescued after being stranded in the Cavado River after being called to rescue two young people stranded on a small island next to Crespos river beach in Braga.
Firefighters, who received minor injuries, had to wait until the flood subsided to safely return to shore.
The situation occurred during the rescue at 21:00 of two young people who were taken by surprise by the rising current and stuck in the water. Amares firefighters rushed to the scene and quickly took away the first victim.
The second rescue proved difficult as rising water restricted access for firefighters, who mobilized additional forces. As a result, one of the teams was detained, and now she is waiting for the river to go down in order to safely leave.
There were 24 firefighters from Amares and Zapadores de Braga and INEM.
