A man from China’s Gansu province has been arrested for allegedly using ChatGPT to write a false story about a train accident. According to Reuters, this is the first such arrest in China.
An article alleging that nine workers were killed in an accident in the northwest Chinese city of Gansu gained more than 15,000 views after being posted on social media on April 25, the Pinglian city local police department said.
According to Reuters, the new Chinese rules state that users cannot use artificial intelligence technology to produce, disseminate and produce false information.
The rules, which came into effect on January 10, are designed to limit the use of generative artificial intelligence technology to modify content on the Internet.
A total of 25 accounts of Baijiahao, a blogging platform owned by Chinese tech giant Baidu, have reported an “accident” with IP addresses from various locations, according to a police statement.
A suspect was identified and detained for creating false information after police tracked down all 25 IP addresses that were used to spread fake news on the Baidu blog.
