Sweden, which holds the European Union (EU) Presidency, said on Thursday that it is ready to list the Russian paramilitary group Wagner, accused of war crimes in Ukraine and Africa, as a terrorist organization.
“Sweden is ready to work towards reaching a consensus within the EU on hosting [o grupo] Wagner on the list of EU terrorist organizations as soon as the legal conditions are met,” Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström told the Swedish newspaper Dagens.Nyheter.
On Tuesday, France’s National Assembly unanimously approved a resolution calling on the French government to “mobilize diplomatically” to register the mercenary group on this list in order to more effectively punish Wagner members and their supporters, in particular financially.
