A civil police inspector (Judiciária) in the Brazilian state of Ceará killed four other police officers on duty at the Camosim police station in a town 353 kilometers from the state capital Fortaleza early this Sunday morning. Inspector Antonio Alves Dourado fled the scene after the murder, but surrendered soon after.
According to initial information, Inspector Dorado, who was off duty, broke into the regional civilian police station in Camocina in the early hours of the morning. He entered through the back door, which gives access to the premises of the police officers on duty. When he entered the barracks, he fired non-stop at everyone there, at four fellow policemen, including three clerks and another inspector, and left only after making sure they were all dead.
The inspector’s motives for killing his colleagues are still unknown. The killer arrived at the police station on a motorcycle and used one of the police cars parked next to the police building to escape. He drove a police car to the headquarters of the Military Police in the city, where he surrendered and confessed to a crime that caused a huge stir in the region and mainly among the security forces, especially since the tragedy occurred in the early hours of the day da Mãe, which is celebrated in Brazil on the second and not the first Sunday in May.
