Maria Pia Street in Lisbon is closed to traffic this Thursday after the roof of an empty three-story building collapsed, security forces told Lusa, without listing any casualties.
According to the commander of the Sapadores Firefighters in Lisbon, Thiago Lopes, everything points to the absence of casualties, but this has not yet been confirmed.
“It was a roof collapse. We have no information that there are victims. However, we, with our dogs and our drones, are trying to check whether there are victims or not,” he said.
The roof of the building, according to the commander, simply fell inward, and not out into the street.
“We always consider the worst case to use dogs to make sure there are no casualties,” he said.
There are 27 Lisbon Fire Regiment operatives on site, supported by six vehicles, as well as elements of the Municipal Civil Protection, PSP and Municipal Police.
A source from the Lisbon Metropolitan Command (Cometlis) PSP told Luza that the building in question is number 363 and traffic in the area is being diverted to other arteries.
The same source indicated that the collapse was due to torrential rain on Tuesday, with no forecast for a resumption of traffic.
