This Sunday, China announced restrictive measures against five US defense companies in response to Washington’s arms sales to Taipei and US sanctions on Chinese companies and individuals.
The sanctions will freeze any property the companies own in China and will also prohibit Chinese organizations and individuals from doing business with those entities, China’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The companies targeted are BAE Systems Land and Armament, Alliant Techsystems Operation, AeroVironment, ViaSat and Data Link Solutions.
The ministry further said that the US measures harmed China’s sovereignty and security interests, undermined peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and violated the rights and interests of Chinese companies and individuals.
“The Chinese government remains steadfast in its determination to protect national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, and protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies and citizens,” the note said.
Beijing, which maintains Taiwan is part of Chinese territory, admits it uses force when necessary and has stopped high-level talks with the Tsai Ing-wen administration that took power in 2016.
