The Public Security Police (PSP) this Wednesday carried out a mega operation in the Greater Porto area, targeting elements of the “Super Dragoins”. Fernando Madureira, the leader of the cheerleading squad, Vitor Catan, a former sporting director, and Fernando Saul, an FC Porto employee with links to Super Dragons, were detained.
During Operation Praetorian, police confiscated several weapons and seized a safe containing thousands of euros from the home of Fernando Madureira. He also confiscated more than a hundred tickets to sporting events, pyrotechnic devices and various drugs such as cocaine and hashish.
A statement from the Porto Attorney General’s Office explained that several searches were carried out at home and outside the home of various members of FC Porto’s fan base. The investigation began last year following attacks on the Porto football club’s general assembly on November 13 and threats against the club’s presidential candidate Andre Villas-Boas. The prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into the case taking place in Diap do Porto.
The PSP says the operation aims to “restore freedom of decision to institutions and citizens.”

Fernando Madureira, also known as “Macaco”, was notified to appear in court to testify, but failed to appear, leading to his arrest. These crimes are punishable by imprisonment for up to five years.
Madureira’s wife was taken to PSP headquarters after PSP agents completed their searches.
Luxury cars confiscated
A police source said CM that during the investigation three of Madureira’s high-end cars were seized, as well as computer equipment and items of clothing.
Cheerleaders charged with various crimes
Members of the Super Dragoins are accused of offenses of bodily harm, criminal damage, coercion and threats, and intimidation of journalists.

The detainees will be present this Thursday for the first interrogation with a view to applying any coercive measures they deem appropriate.

The situation caused controversy and made Pinto da Costa, the Dragons’ president, the target of various criticisms.
A petition was created to remove Fernando Madureira from his position as head of Super Dragões, which was eventually cancelled. Until it was removed, it had more than 12 thousand signatures.

Ever since Andre Villas-Boas admitted that he would run for the presidency of FC Porto, he has been the target of numerous threats from Super Dragons fans.
The former FC Porto coach saw his home vandalized and his private security guard brutally attacked.
