The price of the ferry is unworthy of the Bishop of Setubal

The price of the ferry crossing between Setubal and Troia has long been disputed by the people of Setubal, who now have a powerful ally. Cardinal D. Americo Aguiar, the bishop of Setubal, was shocked by the amount he had to pay. The cost of the trip to Troia and back to Setubal was 47.50 euros (36.70 euros for a car with a driver and 10.80 euros for a passenger), prompting the cardinal to publicly express his indignation.

“The amount to be paid is prohibitive,” he said, adding: “I believe that the day will come when the situation will change and access to Troy will truly be available to everyone, to everyone, to everyone.”

An alternative to the ferry, which takes around 50 minutes round trip, is to take the 204km (round trip) route via the A2 and N253, which adds €12.64 per toll and takes 2 hours and 26 minutes to travel, according to Google Maps. Another option is to use the N10 and N253, which is 190km and takes 2 hours and 48 minutes (round trip).

The crossing is operated exclusively by Atlantic Ferries, which has provided the service. A monthly pass for a pedestrian passenger costs €96.50.
