The 20-year-old had been terrorising the elderly in the Casem and Mira-Sintra area for three weeks with a spate of violent robberies. It was stopped by the PSP after the seventh attack had been completed and one of the victims had been hospitalised after suffering a broken hip during the attack. When he was arrested, he still had suitcases, coin purses, bank cards, a mobile phone and other items stolen from the victims at his home. He has been brought to trial and is already in pre-trial detention.
According to the Sintra Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP), “the accused devised a plan to approach elderly passers-by on public roads in order to seize objects and valuables they had with them, using force if necessary.” The first robbery took place on June 13 and the last on July 5, but it is possible that the other victims did not file an official complaint. The suspect, who also lived in the Mira-Sintra parish, was always aggressive and met any resistance with aggression. In one case, an elderly man was attacked and pushed, and he fell helplessly to the ground. He was eventually hospitalized with a broken pelvis.
The increase in complaints led to the intervention of the PSP and a deputy, who identified the suspect. He was arrested after an arrest warrant was issued on the 7th.
