Between Tuesday evening and Wednesday, several drone strikes were carried out in the Belgorod region, which Russian authorities say was recently targeted by alleged Ukrainian armed groups, according to the governor of the Belgorod region.
“The night was not exactly peaceful. There were many drone attacks. The air defense intercepted most of it,” Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on the Telegram social network.
The governor added that the shelling had damaged vehicles, houses and public buildings in the region, but there were no casualties.
According to Vyacheslav Gladkov, a gas pipeline was damaged in the Graivoronsky district.
“There is a small fire going on,” he added, stressing that the authorities are on site and the causes of the incident are being investigated.
According to Vyacheslav Gladkov, nine civilians were injured during these raids, they are still in hospitals, including three in intensive care.
According to the governor, more than 550 civilians have left the Grayvoron area due to the dangerous situation that has developed in the area in recent days.
“As soon as the security forces finish cleaning the territory and give their consent, I hope you will be able to return to your homes (…). Yesterday [segunda-feira] it was still dangerous,” Gladkov said.
On Tuesday, the Russian army said it had “destroyed” a group that had attacked the region the previous day with its air force and artillery in what was the most spectacular incursion into Russian territory since the conflict began.
According to the Russian authorities, a civilian was killed in the village of Kozinka, one of the towns was attacked, and a woman died of heart failure during their retreat.
Responsibility for the invasion has been claimed by Russian armed groups based in Ukraine, who intend to overthrow Russian President Vladimir Putin.
