The Democratic Party tightened grip on the Senate Tuesday night after preacher Raphael Warnock was re-elected in a hotly contested runoff in Georgia against former football player Herschel Walker. As a result, the Democrats received 51 senators against 49 senators from the Republican Party.
“Let’s celebrate a little on this mountain. Let’s dance because we deserve it, but tomorrow we’ll be back in the valley to do our job,” said Warnock, a preacher at a church in Atlanta where black civil rights activist Martin Luther King preached. .
Despite Warnock’s tangential (50.8% vs. 49.2%) election confirms the dominance of the Senate and reinforces the weak results of candidates backed by former President Donald Trump. In addition to Georgia, they lost to New Hampshire, Nevada, Arizona and Pennsylvania. The win also means that Georgia, a former Republican stronghold, will play an important role for Democrats in the 2024 presidential election. In 2020, Joe Biden won there, and in the past two years, this is the third Democratic victory in the Senate race in Georgia.
Trump Organization Found Guilty of Fraud
A jury in New York found the Trump organization guilty of tax fraud in a case that dealt a severe blow to the former president and his organization’s future business. Although Trump is not on trial, the prosecution alleged that he was aware of a scheme that allowed the illegal enrichment of several executives, such as CFO Allen Weisselberg, a key witness in the trial.
