A 35-year-old man who entered Hamburg Airport in Germany in a car with his four-year-old daughter had kidnapped her before. The suspect, who surrendered to authorities this Sunday, had problems with his ex-wife and was fighting for custody of the girl.
According to a statement released this afternoon by Hamburg police, a man of Turkish nationality was investigated in March last year on suspicion of kidnapping minors. Then he decided to go with his daughter to Turkey without the permission of the child’s mother.
This Saturday, after another quarrel, the suspect pushed his ex-partner and fled with the child in a car towards Hamburg. Upon arrival at the city’s airport, the man fired shots into the air and threw Molotov cocktails.
The airport had to be closed, several flights were canceled and evacuated. It was only after more than 16 hours of negotiations with the police that the suspect decided to abandon the original plan and was arrested without resistance.
“The investigation by the State Criminal Police of Hamburg continues. On the part of the prosecutor’s office, the case is currently being examined by the serious crimes department, and tomorrow it will be transferred to the Central Office of State Security of the Hamburg prosecutor’s office.” You can read the statement from the Hamburg police.
