This Thursday, the Council of Ministers approved an agreement between Portugal and the UK that mutually recognizes the exchange of driving licenses that was previously ended by the UK’s exit from the European Union (Brexit).
“A decree has been signed approving the Agreement between the Portuguese Republic and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on mutual recognition for the purposes of driving and the exchange of driving licenses,” the executive said in a statement following the meeting.
Under this agreement, driving licenses issued by issuing organizations in both countries will be mutually recognized.
Following Brexit, the driving license system issued by member states of the European Union or European Economic Area no longer applies to the United Kingdom.
At the same meeting of the Council of Ministers, the Agreement on Economic Cooperation between the Portuguese Republic and the Republic of Moldova was approved, which is aimed at developing and strengthening economic cooperation between the two states.
The purpose of the agreement is to “intensify and diversify bilateral economic relations on a mutually beneficial basis,” the Council of Ministers said.
