A 12-year-old girl was hit by an ambulance during an emergency march in Leiria on Wednesday afternoon. Fatima’s fire truck was transporting an urgent patient to the Leiria hospital.
The accident occurred in the town of Loureira, in Santa Catarina da Serra, Leiria, on the road connecting Ourem to Leiria, in the early evening, at 18:59.
The emergency ambulance crew immediately treated the girl and activated other emergency means.
Firefighters from Fatima and Leiria were at the scene, as well as an INEM ambulance and resuscitation vehicle from the Santo Andre Hospital in Leiria.
The girl’s family members who witnessed the accident were shocked and received support from INEM’s team of psychologists from the Center for Psychological Support and Crisis Intervention (CAPIC).
The girl went to the pediatric emergency department of Santo Andre Hospital in Leiria with injuries considered “very serious,” said a source at the GNR, which is investigating the cause of the accident.
There were 12 fire operatives, INEM and GNR at the scene.
