The Judicial Police (SP) launched an operation to combat international drug trafficking and managed to discover a warehouse located in Lisbon with a large amount of cocaine hidden in boxes of bananas. According to the agency’s statement, a total of 4,426 kilograms of narcotic products destined for other European countries were seized in Ecuador.
“The way the cocaine was hidden in boxes of bananas, which were in turn placed on pallets inside shipping containers, made it extremely difficult to detect and subsequently seize,” the SP said.
Operation Ancora did not result in any arrests, but it did lead to the collection of relevant evidence that was shared with authorities in other countries.
This operation, carried out with the support of the Revenue and Customs Administration, is part of the efforts of the judicial police to coordinate and join forces with authorities in other countries.
The investigation is ongoing.
