The National Director of the Judicial Police (JP) this Saturday considered it “absolutely fantastic” that 500 new inspectors and 150 experts have been hired since 2018, recognizing that it will be possible to finally solve the problem of corruption and economic and financial problems. crime.

“From 2018 to February next year, we trained more than 500 new inspectors for this institution. This is simply fantastic,” said Luis Neves during the ceremony celebrating the International Anti-Corruption Day, which took place this Saturday in Povoa de Varzim, a district from Porto.

According to the national director of the SP, these new elements will allow the police to “finally address the issue of fighting corruption and related economic and financial crime”, since before this the SP had people who came every five years and wanted to go to their lands, which “ made it difficult to gain knowledge and experience.”

“Today, with the funding that we’re getting, it allows professionals to settle down, learn the organizational culture of their seniors there, gain experience there, rather than want to run there because they’ll go into burnout, because that’s exactly what was happening.”

During a 40-minute speech at the municipal auditorium of Povoa de Varzim, Luis Neves added that in 11 years the joint venture had not hired a single expert.

“Right now [desde 2018] we have already recruited 150 experts, and for the next five years, by decree, we have the right to recruit 50 more experts every year,” he said, noting that “in almost 80 years of history, the judicial police have never recruited an expert for the field of information that “ are essential to understanding and analyzing the work,” and have currently hired “16 experts” in the field.

Luis Neves emphasized that the work of the judicial police is aimed “in favor of human rights” and that it serves to contribute to the creation of a “more egalitarian and fair” Portugal, in which every citizen is treated “equally, which has Tables of Opportunities.”

“I’m very optimistic. Today the motivating factor of the institution is not failure, it is not disbelief as it was a few years ago, it is not asking when we will finish, when we will incorporate. Forget about it. Today we are stronger, we are better prepared, we are looking for knowledge, we are looking for academia, we are looking for other partners.”

The national director of the CoP said that although the CoP had become more “fortified”, it would still be “modest and modest”.

“The judicial police, its strengthening, its expansion of powers have nothing against anyone. She effectively supports the prosecutor’s office and has the honor of working with our partners and presenting results to the public. This is what drives us. This is, first of all, service. Luis Neves stressed that the judicial police are not Lisbon.

“PJ operates from Vila Real to the autonomous regions where working conditions were unsatisfactory. That is why, when we were, and still are, accused of delaying work,” Luis Neves attributes responsibility for these delays “to politics.” “, but never with PJ.

The judiciary said the institution must “come out of the cave” and move on.

“We have to get out of the cave, because today we have the opportunity, we have the means, this is our path, this is the training of our people.
