Pop singer Olly Alexander announced on Sunday that he will represent the UK in next year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
“I can’t believe I will be part of such a special legacy. I’m going to represent my country in the most fun way possible,” said the artist.
Alexander’s most successful songs are “Desire”, “King” and “If You’re Over Me”. As an actor he was nominated for a Bafta Award.
“I love Eurovision, it’s a dream come true. I’m very excited,” he admitted.
The former Years and Years member wants to improve on the Brits’ recent record. “I am determined to do my best and give everyone a great and memorable performance,” he added.
In the last four editions, the UK has been ranked last two (in 2019 and 2021) and second to last (in 2023).
The British are among the top ten countries to finish last, having achieved this feat five times, the same number of times they have won the festival.
This year’s event will take place in Malmö, Sweden, following Nordic Loreen’s 2023 win with the song “Tattoo”.
