NASA believes the new Valkyrie humanoid robots will be able to function similarly to humans and use the same tools and equipment, the agency said. Reuters.
Engineers test robots at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, USA. NASA explains that Valkyrie humanoids are ready to act in areas affected by natural disasters.
With the right software, they will be able to perform tasks in space, such as cleaning solar panels or checking faulty equipment outside the spacecraft, according to team leader Sean Azimi.
“We’re not trying to replace human crews. We’re just trying to shift the boring, dirty, dangerous work onto them so they can focus on higher level activities,” he said.
In this regard, NASA is developing partnerships with robotics companies, including Apptronik, based in Austin, USA. Apptronik plans to begin supplying companies with humanoid robots in early 2025.
