A 48-year-old man was seriously injured, and seven others, including four children, were slightly injured in a fire that broke out this Saturday in a house in the municipality of Elvas, Civil Protection reports.
The fire, a source from the Alto Alentejo Subregional Emergency and Civil Protection Authority told Lusa, broke out around 7:15 pm in a house located in Rossio do Semiterio, in Vila Boim, in the municipality of Elvas (Portalegre).
According to the same source, the most seriously injured was a 48-year-old man who suffered burns and was taken by firefighters to the Santa Luzia hospital in Elvas.
The other seven suffered minor injuries due to smoke inhalation, he added, adding that they were two men aged 45 and 32, a woman aged 31 and four children, two aged 11, one aged eight and another At the age of 10.
Of the seven lightly injured, six were also taken to the hospital in Elvas and one to the Espirito Santo Hospital in Évora (HESE).
Elvas, INEM and GNR firefighters, a total of 31 operators, were involved in fighting the flames and assisting the victims, supported by 11 vehicles, including an ambulance and resuscitation vehicle (VMER) from Portalegre and a Support.Life Basics (SIV) ambulance from Elvas.
