The Maritime Authority announced this Sunday that it found a body floating about 50 meters offshore in Santa Clara County, Sao Miguel Island, Azores during the day, although the cause of death is unknown.
“Following an alert received at 12:25 p.m. via the Ponta Delgada Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Delgada), Maritime Police units from the Ponta Delgada Rescue Station and Ponta Delgada Volunteer Firefighters were immediately activated.” , — stated in the message of the Marine Department.
According to the same source, it was not until they arrived at the scene that the team discovered that it was the body of a man in his 70s, which had been collected and taken to the Ponta Delgada Port Authority facilities.
“Death was pronounced on the spot by a medical officer, and the body was later taken to the hospital by Ponta Delgada volunteer firefighters,” the same statement says, adding that the case was referred to the Maritime Police Command to investigate the causes of this phenomenon.
