The US Treasury Department on Monday imposed new sanctions on Iranian officials in a crackdown on anti-government protests against Deputy Intelligence Minister Nasser Rashedi and a foundation linked to the Revolutionary Guards.
The sanctions, which also cover Revolutionary Guard officials, have been negotiated with the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom and block all target property in the United States and prohibit economic and commercial transactions.
This is the ninth round of US sanctions against Iran since the September 2022 protests sparked by the death of young Masha Amini after being arrested for wearing the Islamic hijab incorrectly.
