A policeman and seven demonstrators were injured this Monday in Baghdad during a demonstration organized in front of the Swedish embassy in the Iraqi capital to protest the burning of a copy of the Koran by far-right elements in Stockholm.
An Iraqi interior ministry source quoted by the France-Presse (AFP) news agency said that between 400 and 500 demonstrators protested in front of the Swedish legation in Baghdad and tried to enter the embassy building, but were stopped by the police, sparking clashes.
The source added that the demonstrators, stopped by the police, started throwing stones, because of which the security forces used batons to disperse people, eight people were injured as a result of clashes.
