Equatorial Guinea is ranked as the third most corrupt country on the African continent, falling one place to 172 out of 180 on the Corruption Perceptions Index, according to a report released Tuesday.
This year’s edition of the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), produced by the non-governmental organization Transparency International, which ranks 180 countries and territories from zero (considered very corrupt) to 100 points (very transparent), states that Equatorial Guinea (17 points), South Sudan (13) and Somalia (11) “recorded the lowest results with no signs of improvement” in Africa.
Equatorial Guinea’s trend over the last five years has been to lose one point, and with the last 11 years taken into account, it has lost three.
