The Pentagon assured this Wednesday that it has the ability to respond to threats that may arise in the world, despite a recently released report saying that the resources currently available in the US are insufficient for war.
Defense Department spokesman Pat Ryder assured during a press conference that the Pentagon would not do anything that could affect its level of readiness or ability to respond to national security demands.
Pat Ryder was responding to questions about a report released by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) on Monday that indicated the US military industrial base was not prepared to face a hypothetical war with China over Taiwan.
The report says that in less than a week, the US will be left without enough long-range and precision-guided munitions, and that the military aid that Washington is providing to Ukraine to protect against a Russian invasion will be the reason.
The Pentagon spokesman stressed that while the United States is helping Ukraine, they are ready to face other threats.
“As part of the process, there are ongoing and active negotiations to make sure we have what we need and that we can continue to replenish our stocks.”
Ryder explained that the national defense strategy “makes it clear” that China remains a growing problem for the US and that this is what military budgets are based on.
“I am confident that regardless of the situation in the world, as we have done for a long time, the US Armed Forces will be able to be ready to support the demands that are made of us,” he added.
The New York Times reported this Wednesday that the Pentagon is in a race to increase artillery rocket production by 500% over the next two years, boosting ammunition production to records similar to those of the Korean War (1950-1953). .
This newspaper, citing a US Army report, notes that this project will be part of “the most aggressive modernization in almost 40 years.”
The investment in artillery production comes at a time when the US is sending large quantities of this equipment to Ukraine, in particular 155mm Howitzer howitzers.
