The US Supreme Court this Thursday expressed skepticism about arguments in favor of disqualifying former President Donald Trump from the presidential election for sponsoring the invasion of the Capitol.
At issue is a Colorado Supreme Court decision that barred Trump’s name from appearing on that state’s primary election ballot because it motivated the act of insurrection that led to the invasion of the Capitol by Trump supporters on January 6, 2021.
If the Supreme Court upholds the Colorado court’s decision after hearings that began Thursday in Washington, it would prove that Trump actually participated in the insurrection, barring him from returning to the presidency.
