Águas do Algarve has announced that the competition for the design, construction and operation of a desalination plant in the Algarve has already been published in the newspaper Diário da República. With a base cost of 90 million euros, the implementation period is 2026. It is to be implemented on a site near Falesia beach in Albufeira.
The initial production capacity of the infrastructure will be 16 million cubic meters of water per year, and can then be increased to 24 million. According to António Eusebio, president of Águas do Algarve, the company is “continuously committed to ensuring water efficiency and environmental sustainability in the region.” This work is part of a set of investments the company is making as part of the Algarve Water Efficiency Plan.
