Seven areas of the continent will be under an orange warning on Thursday and Friday due to rough seas forecast. North-westerly waves of 5 to 7 meters are expected, with a maximum height of 12 metres.
According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the areas of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga will be under a yellow level from 12:00 to 18:00 on Thursday due to rough seas. warning, which will then change to orange.
An orange warning for these areas will be in effect from 6pm Thursday until 7am Friday.
The IPMA has also issued a yellow warning for the Faro, Setúbal and Beja areas due to sea conditions, with north-westerly waves of 4 to 5 meters expected from 00:00 to 07:00 Friday.
An orange warning is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a “moderate to high risk meteorological situation” and a yellow warning when there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
