Since Saturday, the island of Santiago, including the capital of Cape Verde, has experienced several power outages due to problems at a power plant in the city of Praia, state-owned Electra said this Sunday.
“The general power outage that occurred this Sunday morning on the island of Santiago was caused by a technical failure at the Central do Palmarejo power generation center,” the company said.
“Technical limitations limited rapid reconnection throughout the island, with priority services initially provided and remaining reconnections implemented gradually,” he added.
Before this Sunday’s general outage, there had already been other outages on Saturday: parts of the capital began to remain without power late in the day, with some outages lasting about an hour, various sources told Lusa.
They added that several parts of the city of Praia, including areas dedicated to restaurants, were left without power early Sunday evening.
