The Angolan government will award the best music and logo for the 50th anniversary of Angolan independence, which will be celebrated in 2025, awarding the winners €33,200 and €27,600 respectively in a competition announced this Wednesday.
The coordinator of the technical group of the interdepartmental commission for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Angolan independence, Teresa Kiviengele, said today that the public competitions, which started at the end of March and will run until the 30th of this month, provide for the award of a prize of 30 million kwanzas (33,200 euros) for best song and 25 million kwanzaa (27,600 euros) for best logo.
The Secretary of State for Territorial Administration said the music competition to celebrate Angola’s 50th anniversary of independence was intended to strengthen its identity and popularity.
As for the logo, proposals should consist of geometric shapes of fauna or flora, southern land or sea elements corresponding to the anniversary, include the number 50, include the colors of the national flag, present semiotic elements reflecting the historical evolution of the logo. Teresa Kiviengele said the celebrations will highlight the major achievements achieved over 50 years, emphasizing national sovereignty, freedom and control of Angola’s territory, as well as the consolidation of a democratic state and the rule of law.
He said the celebrations also aim to promote patriotism, highlight pride in being Angolan, promote knowledge and understanding of Angolan history, promote national culture and promote tourism.
Other objectives are to reflect on the challenges faced in achieving independence and building a better future through promoting participatory governance.
The Angolan ruler said that the celebrations will be based on three chronological moments: first, dedicated to the struggle against Portuguese colonial rule and for national independence, second, the achievement of peace in 2002 and the defense of territorial integrity, and third, national reconciliation and the construction of pillars of the country’s development.
Angola gained independence on November 11, 1975.
