For the second year in a row, Russia will limit celebrations of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany, which is central to the Kremlin’s patriotic narrative, for security reasons.
In particular, the “Immortal Regiment” processions, during which thousands of Russians march across the country with portraits of their family members who participated in World War II, have been cancelled, an official said today.
Due to existing threats to public safety associated with the conflict in Ukraine and the recent attack near Moscow, “the organization “Immortal Regiment of Russia” decided not to hold the procession (…) in person,” said co-director of the person Elena Tsunaeva, as quoted by the Interfax agency. .
