Spanish Cardinal Juan José Omella, Archbishop of Barcelona, presides this Sunday and Monday at the ceremonies of the first anniversary pilgrimage of 2024 to the Sanctuary of Fatima.
The pilgrimage already involves more than a hundred organized groups of pilgrims attracted to the services of the sanctuary, including dozens from more than 20 countries, mainly from the European, Asian and American continents.
Spain, Italy, Poland, the United States of America, Brazil, Congo, China or Vietnam are some of the countries whose groups have registered for the pilgrimage, which, in addition to celebrating the 107th anniversary of the first apparition of Our Lady to the three Little Shepherds, in 1917, also recalls the seventh anniversary of the canonization of Francisco and Jacinta Marto, who on May 13, 2017 became the youngest non-martyr saints in the Church.
Official pilgrimage ceremonies will begin at 9:30 pm this Sunday with the recitation of the rosary in the Chapel of Apparitions, followed by a procession of candles and the Celebration of the Word at the altar in the enclosure.
Meanwhile, the Fatima Sanctuary announced the launch this week of the second edition of its official rosary, marked by “a strong connection with the image of the Capelinha das Apparições.”
This edition, with a circulation of about two thousand copies, differs from the first, presented in 2016, on the eve of the celebration of the centenary of the apparitions, mainly of the cross, “inspired by the cross on Our crown.” Lady Fatima.”
The previous one was a reproduction of the High Cross located next to the entrance to the Basilica of the Holy Trinity.
“Based on the works of art that make up the heritage of the Shrine of Fatima, the rosary takes on the identity of a place where countless generations of pilgrims pray every day for the conversion of hearts, for world peace and for the Church. Christ,” reads the pagela accompanying the rosary, created by Leitan and Irmao, former Crown jewelers.
The new rosaries went on sale in shrine shops last Thursday in anticipation of the arrival of many thousands of pilgrims.
