According to the Portuguese Environmental Protection Agency (APA), swimming at Matosinhos beach in the Porto area is not recommended from Tuesday due to microbiological indicators of the water exceeding reference parameters.
On its official website, the APA says there is “microbiological contamination” in the bathing water at Matosinhos, but does not mention which beach it is, so swimming is not recommended from Tuesday.
In a conversation with Lusa, the commander of the Douro captaincy, Rui Lamprea, said that swimming on Matosinhos beach is not recommended.
Throughout the swimming season, which began on May 1 in Cascais and Madeira, APA carries out tests to assess whether the waters are suitable for swimming, in order to guarantee greater safety for users.
Lusa has also contacted the Matosinhos City Council and is awaiting a response.
