An 11-year-old boy has died after being hit by a truck in Estarreja late on Monday. It is believed the child, who had gone to visit his grandfather, was riding his bicycle when he was hit by the heavy vehicle.
At around 7:30 p.m., the Estarreja firefighters were alerted to a traffic accident on Rua da Teixeira in Canelas. The Aveiro ambulance and resuscitation team was also called.
The resuscitation protocol began, but nothing could be done to save the child. The victim did not survive the injuries he received and died on the spot.
GNR and the Aveiro GNR Road Accident Investigation Unit are investigating the causes of the fatal accident. The boy’s body has been taken to the Aveiro Institute of Forensic Medicine.
