A Russian Su-27 fighter jet intercepted a reconnaissance aircraft and two British fighter jets over the Black Sea on Friday after they changed course after approaching, the third incident involving NATO aircraft in a week, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
“A Russian Su-27 air defense fighter took off to prevent a violation of Russia’s state border. The crew identified the air targets as an RC-135 reconnaissance and electronic warfare aircraft and two UK Air Force Typhoon multirole fighters,” the Russian ministry reported.
“Due to the proximity of the Russian fighter, the foreign military aircraft changed course and moved away from the Russian border,” the Russian government explained, adding that the Russian aircraft returned to its base, avoiding violating the border.
