Starting this Friday, three hospitals in the Setubal Peninsula (South Coast) specializing in obstetrics/gynecology will be closed until at least Wednesday. A situation that means that pregnant women in an emergency situation have to give birth in Lisbon.
Data from the National Health Service shows that the São Bernardo Hospital, Setúbal; Our Lady of the Rosary, Barreiro; and Garcia de Orta, Almada, will close their obstetrics and gynaecology emergency departments for five days from this Saturday.
On Saturday and Sunday, emergency obstetric services will also be closed in Vila Franca de Xira, São Francisco Xavier and Santa Maria (Lisbon) in the Greater Lisbon area. The situation is also worse in the Leira area this Friday.
At the Santo André Hospital in Leiria, the emergency department is closed until the 19th. Caldas da Rainha will close the emergency department this Friday and Monday.
