The government will hire 570 new justice officials, the justice minister announced this Monday during a visit to Pampilhosa da Serra in the central region, where she also announced that new communications equipment would be installed in the courts.
In the inaugural speech of the XXV Handicraft and Gastronomy Fair in Pampilhosa da Serra, the Minister of Justice, Rita Alarcão Judices, announced the authorization of the Ministry of Finance for the process of hiring judicial officers, “without whom no court can function”.
In response to Lusa’s question, the minister’s office clarified that it would be necessary to wait for an order from the Ministry of Finance to find out when it would be possible to launch an external competition to hire 570 new bailiffs for public administration, and added that the Ministry of Justice “is studying the best way” to launch the competition, guarantee its effectiveness and distribute vacancies among the regions of the country where the shortage of these specialists is felt most.
This is because the guardianship wants to ensure that open positions do not remain empty due to lack of candidates or non-acceptance of the position, which has happened in recent competitions, especially since a high-paying position at the start of a career does not allow for the costs of, for example, renting a house in areas such as Lisbon and its metropolitan area.
The Justice Minister’s office, still responding to Lusa, said that “at the moment” there are no incentives for creating professionals in the most problematic areas and with higher living costs.
Regarding the careers of judicial officers, the Minister, in her speech in Pampilhosa da Serra, referred to the process of revising the Statute of Judicial Officers, about which, according to her, she expects “good news in the coming months”.
Rita Alarcao Judice also announces installation “in all courts of the country.” [de] new videoconferencing equipment, new audio systems and new telephones to increase communication capacity”, funded by the Programme for Recovery and Resilience (PRR), tenders for procurement have been completed and the Audit Office has approved them.
It is expected that, according to the minister, “from September until the end of the year this infrastructure will be at the service of justice.”
Regarding the public consultation process on the Anti-Corruption Programme, which ends this Monday, the Minister of Justice said that more than 20 submissions had been received, “mainly from citizens, lawyers, jurists and associations”, in addition to materials in the press, radio and television.
“We have taken note of everything because the fight against corruption must be a fight for every citizen. We want to reform the justice system,” says Minister Rita Alarcan Judicei.
