ISIS reportedly claimed responsibility for a stabbing attack that killed three people at a festival in Solingen, Germany, on Friday evening. ReutersEight more people were injured.
An anonymous security source told Amaq, the IS propaganda agency, that “the perpetrator of yesterday’s (Friday) attack on a Christian gathering in the city of Solingen, Germany, is an Islamic State militant.”
According to a brief statement posted on his channels on the Telegram digital platform, the informant said the perpetrator, whom he did not identify, carried out the attack “as revenge against Muslims in Palestine and elsewhere,” without providing further details.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested by German police this Saturday.
The attack took place in a square where live bands were performing during a party to mark the city’s 650th anniversary, called the “Festival of Diversity.” 80,000 visitors were expected this weekend.
The festival was cancelled and residents were advised to stay home and avoid the city centre.
