Air France plans to resume flights to Tel Aviv and Beirut on Tuesday.

Air France and Transavia flights to Tel Aviv and Beirut are expected to resume from Tuesday, the airline said on Monday.

“At this stage, depending on the evolution of the security situation at the destination, the company plans to resume services between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Beirut (Lebanon), as well as between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Tel Aviv (Israel), suspended from August 25, 2024” due to escalating tensions between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah, “from Tuesday, August 27, 2024,” the airline said in a press release sent to AFP.

According to Air France, customers “with flights booked to/from Beirut or Tel Aviv on or before September 1, 2024” can postpone or cancel their trip free of charge.

The resumption of flights on Tuesday also includes Transavia, a subsidiary of the group, a spokesman told the AFP news agency.

The decision to suspend the flights was justified by the escalation of tensions between Israel and the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah. In response to the killing of one of its military commanders in an Israeli attack on July 30, Hezbollah launched attacks on military bases in Israel and the Syrian Golan Heights occupied by Tel Aviv.

This situation forced Israel to respond by destroying “thousands of Hezbollah rocket launch sites” and declaring a state of emergency.

The first airlines to cancel flights with stopovers in Tel Aviv were North American airlines Delta and United, but others quickly joined in, including American Airlines, Ryanair and easyJet.

German airline Lufthansa announced a few days ago that it would extend the suspension of flights to Beirut until September 30, as well as to Tel Aviv and Tehran (the capital of Iran) until September 2.
