The municipality of Lamego is already mourning the death of the NTC soldiers who were on board the helicopter that crashed in the Douro this Friday.
A municipal mourning was declared in honor of the soldiers. The Town Hall flag was lowered.
Remember that The plane was carrying five soldiers from the GNR’s Emergency Protection and Assistance Unit (UEPS) and sank. The pilot, Luis Rebelo, was rescued alive and is in stable condition.

“The Municipality of Lamego regrets with deep horror the death of the GNR soldiers from the Emergency Protection and Assistance Unit, who this Friday were on board the helicopter that crashed into the Douro River. In this hour of pain and deep sorrow, we sadly pay tribute to the courage and high civic and professional sense shown by these soldiers in the performance of their noble mission at the service of Portugal and the Portuguese. Their legacy will forever remain a testimony to their unprecedented commitment and dedication to the public cause. . exemplary and integral. To everyone, especially the families of the victims, we express all our solidarity and support, as well as our condolences and feelings of regret. In addition, this Municipality declares municipal mourning in their honor. The flag will be lowered at the Town Hall and a minute of silence will be observed this evening before the concert scheduled as part of the celebrations in honor of Nossa Senhora dos Remedios.”
