Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will attend the next G20 meeting in Indonesia this month, but most likely via videoconference, a presidential spokesman said on Tuesday.
“She will participate in the G20 summit,” said Sergei Nikiforov, whose words are quoted by Ukrainian radio and television regarding the participation of the head of the Ukrainian state in the meeting of the group of 20 most developed economies.
“Most likely, it will be in an online format,” the spokesman added.
The President of Ukraine has not traveled abroad since his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin ordered a military offensive against Ukraine on February 24.
Confirmation of Zelensky’s attendance at the G20 meeting to be held in Bali, Indonesia on November 15 and 16 comes after Ukraine’s president warned last week that he would not attend if Putin, who is also on the invite list, was present at the meeting.
Putin was personally invited by Indonesian President Joko Widodo during a trip to Russia last June, when the Indonesian head of state also visited Ukraine in an unsuccessful attempt to mediate an armed conflict.
On Monday, the Kremlin said Putin would not attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders’ summit scheduled for November 18-19, while Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said it would be announced this week if the Russian leader will participate in the G20.
G20 consists of Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, South Africa, UK, USA. and the European Union.
