One of the Chinese balloons, intercepted in January in North America, was able to transmit information to Beijing, the capital of China. The images and other captured signals were sent in real time, a source close to the case revealed. CNN International.
The information has not been confirmed by the Chinese authorities. So far, China has denied that the balloon was used for this purpose. It is recalled that the flying object flew over the United States and Canada for a week, and was later shot down by the military.
According to the NBC report, “the information that China was collecting was mostly electronic signals that could be obtained from weapons systems or military communications.”
The North American authorities were able to minimize the impact of intelligence gathering as they were able to detect the balloon’s flight path and protect sensitive areas.
The wreckage of the balloon was discovered in February off the coast of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Since then, the FBI has continued to investigate. The balloon is being analyzed and some information about its software has already been obtained.
