One person was killed and one seriously injured in a head-on collision on National Road 229 (EN 229) near the town of Avelal in Satana. The fatal victim is an 80-year-old man.
“It was a head-on collision between two cars that killed an 80-year-old man,” Satan, second in command of volunteer firefighters, told Lusa.
Bruno Veiga said that “the mortal victim was imprisoned and alone in the car” and the wounded man “in serious condition, aged 72 and 73, was also alone and was taken to the Viseu hospital”.
“The collision took place on the EN 229 highway, near the entrance to Avelal, and the road is closed to traffic,” Bruno Veiga added, pointing out to the Lusa agency that both parties involved in the accident are residents of the municipality of Satan, Viseu district.
According to the Viseu Dão Lafões Sub-Regional Command, the alarm was raised at 17:30 and 19 operators were mobilized on the spot with the support of eight Sátão, GNR and the National Institute of Emergency Medicine (INEM) volunteer firefighters. ).
The road had been closed to traffic since the warning, but reopened around 20:00.
