Russia warns G7 if they block exports, there will be no deal on grains

The vice-president of the Russian Security Council this Sunday warned the G7 countries that if they veto their exports to Russia, it could mean the end of the Ukrainian grain agreement.

“The G7 idea of a complete ban on exports to our country is great by definition, because it also means stopping the import of the most sensitive products from our country to the G7,” Dmitry Medvedev warned on Telegram.

The former president of Russia, who recently distinguished himself by rude and aggressive comments on social networks, specified that “in this case, the agreement on cereals and many other things that they need will end.”

Japanese news agency Kyodo reported, citing Japanese government sources, that the G7 countries are considering banning most of their exports to Russia.

This situation arises about a month before the G7 summit in the Japanese city of Hiroshima (west), scheduled for May, where, as in the ministerial meetings already held under the Japanese presidency, the war in Ukraine is expected to be one of the central issues.

“We know there is news about this, but we refrain from commenting,” a Japanese foreign ministry spokeswoman told EFE, in line with the position of a government spokesperson.

This information came shortly after the publication, which reported that the United States and Ukraine are considering imposing such a veto.

The G7 countries have already frozen exports to Russia of a wide range of goods, including goods with military potential and luxury goods, but the extension of the veto could affect cars, tires, cosmetics or clothing, EFE reports.
