The Portuguese navy escorted and controlled from Thursday to Friday another passage of Russian ships off the mainland coast of Portugal.
A Portuguese Navy statement explains that “surveillance of Russian naval units is related to the protection of national interests and the exercise of state power at sea and is a procedure that represents a significant contribution to global security and deterrence, and also demonstrates the commitment of Portugal to the collective efforts of the Alliance maintaining maritime awareness”.
The tug “Sergey Balk” and the logistics support ship “Vice-Admiral Paromov” were accompanied by the frigate “Corte-Real”.
Several similar missions have been launched since the invasion of Ukraine began.
