North American Queens of The Stone Age are the first group announced for the Vilar de Mouros festival, scheduled for August in this city of Minho, the organization announced this Thursday.
The festival will take place from August 21 to 24, and Josh Homme’s band will perform on stage on the first day.
Queens of The Stone Age, formed in California in the 1990s, performed regularly in Portugal, especially at festivals. In 2023 they performed at the NOS Alive festival in Oeiras.
In 2023, the Vilar de Mouros festival brought together about 70 thousand people to see such names as Limp Bizkit, The Prodigy, Pendulum, James.
This year the organization promises “better access conditions, more parking spaces and better traffic at the site.”
Vilar de Mouros, billed as the first music festival in the country that still enjoys the fame of “Woodstock, Portuguese style”, took place in 1971, undergoing an eight-year hiatus between 2006 and 2014.
The first festival, organized by Dr. Antonio Barge, featured, among others, Elton John and Manfred Mann.
